Working Inside the Lab... Who We Employ
Below are the most commonly sought after positions in the laboratories. The time commitment is generally a minimum of 10 hours per week. Students wishing to work in the lab for course credit are required to work 3 hours per week for each enrolled credit hour (e.g., Registering for 3 hours of PSYCH 2901 would entail a weekly commitment of 9 hours). Research Assistants - If you are interested in getting hands on research experience, we can always use a helping hand. Typically students can work on a range of projects and get experience in experimental design, data collection, and data analyses. The time commitment is generally a minimum of 10 hours per week. The mechanism for working in the lab varies. Occasionally paid positions are available. Students may also work as part of an independent study or senior thesis. Computer Programmers - Lab programmers create/maintain/update experiment-related programs. The majority of programs used in the lab are designed for Unix/Linux based operating systems. Transcribers - Transcribers listen to and transcribe the vocal output produced by participants in experiments. In some cases, transcribers are allowed to work from home. This position requires strict attention to detail.
